Children can sometimes find it difficult or overwhelming to talk about their feelings or experiences and sometimes they just don’t have the words. Play Therapy can help them to explore and process these experiences, feelings and needs.
Through play in a therapeutic setting, children can learn to feel more empowered and to manage these, yet unknown or misunderstood feelings.
Play Therapy gives children time and a safe space to be and do whatever they need to, in whatever way they need. With access to art, sand, clay, puppets, small world, drama, storytelling, music and more, children can explore, create and express in ways they may otherwise find too frightening or confusing.
Each child has their own unique experience of the world. Play therapy can help them to better understand what they need and how to unlock their own potential. Play Therapy is a largely non-directive intervention meaning that the child has the power to heal themself within a safe and therapeutic space.
Play therapy can help children and young people experiencing:
- friendship/peer difficulties,
- anxiety,
- low self-esteem,
- communication difficulties,
- Autism diagnosis or exploring this diagnosis,
- loss or bereavement,
- family mental or physical health difficulties,
- family substance abuse,
- family relationship difficulties/parental separation.
